Cruel Seas Starter Set

 All,

And now for something completely different.  I will admit to being a cad here; I have no idea what this stuff is, what I'll do with it, or when I'll get around to it, but I stumbled across it super cheap on Ebay and I couldn't help myself.  I've been daydreaming about playing coastal fights where the Dogboats are escorting Royal Marines in landing craft, who are attempting to carry out raids against occupied France, Norway, maybe over in Italy, who knows.  Time is, as always, the crucial deciding factor.

In any case, I figured I'd do a quick post to show you guys what I got.

So here it is, a big box marked "Cruel Seas,' with a complete rulebook, tons of paraphernalia (markers of all sorts, turning radius thingamajigs, splash markers, hit markers, cotton wool to show smoke and fires, dice, etc...), an MDF cargo ship/tanker of some sort, unpainted, and then ten finely painted mins, six British and four German.

Here are the painted minis, Germans at top and Brits at bottom.

Some closeups.  Again, I don't mind sounding like an imbecile, but I'm not trying to piss anyone off; I really don't know what these are.  I'm sure they're Vosper MTBs of some sort, but I've noted that three have two torpedo tubes with what looks to be a 20mm Oerlikon forward and a machine gun aft, and three have four torpedo tubes with what looks to be a twin 20mm Oerlikon forward and nothing aft.

Another look.

Again.

And one more.

And then we get to the Germans.  Again, I don't know the difference between an S-Boat and an E-Boat, I just know that two of these have masts with Nazi flags on them, with gun mounts fore and aft, and two don't.  This is the masted beast.

Again.

And the unmasted one.

Again.

I love the idea of doing some coastal actions, but I already have a bunch of USN vs IJN stuff in 1/600 that I need to get to, so this is on the shelf for now.  But we'll see what happens, and I hope to get to it at some point.

V/R,
Jack

  1. You have enough for a game. Play through the rules, book runs you through the scenarios to intro the rules by the time you are through the paging, the next thing you know the ruled and have two theaters.
