Looking for answers

Just checked and saw that the blog had 400 hits last night, which is not only a one day record, but comes on the heels of several days of ~20 hit days.

Does anyone have any idea why? Did someone post something somewhere that's driving this upswing in traffic?  I'm expecting to find something along the lines of "check out this backwards $&@! using carpet and bathroom tiles for his games!" ;)

I looked on TMP, TWW, and Pendraken, didn't see anything.  Thoughts?

V/R,
Jack

  1. I tend to share your AAR's but I didn't post anything yesterday.
I did share a link to the wargames website and since you post like 50% of the AARs on that site, maybe you got some hits :)

  2. Hi Jack
I'm currently getting some weird stats in my blog. I'm getting a hit every 30 minutes from somewhere in China and occasionally get spike hits of tens of page views in a few seconds. No idea what they are, but they drive up the page view stats, which pushes up my ego, thinking I'm really popular. Then when they stop the page views crash. The weird hits seem to come from China, eastern Europe and occasionally the USA according to the summary stats. No idea what it's all about though.
    Cheers, Andy

  3. I usually find that one or two day spikes in hits is due to some "improve your hits" websites that provide no value, other than giving blogs one or two day strikes in traffic! Normally from the blogger dashboard, you can check under "Stats" then Traffic and click on "Day" to find out the site that is causing it.

  4. Ivan - Share away, I'd just never seen 400 hits in a day before.

Andy and Shaun - Thanks guys, I didn't know that stuff about checking stats/traffic. But I'm still confused; first, the numbers shown on "overview" don't seem to match up with the more detailed stats, and second, the only source URL/webpage that wasn't Google, TMP, TWW, or Pendraken, was "feedly.com," and none of the stuff came from Asia (though about 25 came from Eastern Europe).

The world may never know. But I appreciate your help, I'd never seen something like this.

And Shaun, you need to quite writing strange-ass novels on TWW and read Batrep 16 ;)

    1. Overview will roughly be the same but i find they do not match, I never look at overview, always stats. Maybe your blog was a flash mob for a day :-)

I could read batrep 16, or keep playing 1/72 tanks with my 6 year old (he makes up the rules as we push stuff around on a 2'x3' table). We are just taking a break.

    2. Hi Jack

Just had a very strange Sunday as far as blog hits go. All seemed normal until c. 5pm GMT, when I got almost 300 hits in the space of 5 minutes, all from the USA. A weird little spike if ever I saw one. No idea why and nothing similar since.

      Cheers, Andy

    3. Sorry Andy, I was out on travel and not paying attention.

I really don't know how to explain it. All I know is I'm not going to complain, I'm just like you, it makes me feel much more interesting than I really am ;)

      Take care.

      Jack

  5. Yeah, I still don't get it. Just 400 hits out of the blue, scattered amongst a whole bunch of different posts. Never seen anything like it before.

Don't worry about reading if you're playing, particularly with your kid!

    Jack
