What I Did This Week

All,

In honor of TMP's new board (gotta love new boards, right?), I bring you this post.  Actually, it just sort of matched up with what I had going on.  I've been working on various units for 15mm WWII and modern skirmish forces.  I'm nowhere near done, but I had a bunch that were painted but waiting on basing, so I decided to sit down and finally put the finishing touches on them.  Quite a few of these forces are not new, but are simply an expansion of previously completed forces.  For example, a couple months ago I bought, painted, based, and posted a QRF Modern French force.  But then I decided it wasn't big enough, so I went and got another dozen or so troops and had to take them from start to finish to complete the platoon.  Quite a bit of what I finished up was that sort of thing, though there were also a few new forces which, as is my custom, will get their own blog post.

Here's my big box of skirmish platoons, with the new forces and the previously finished forces that I added to.

Again.

Added about 15 guys to my Early-WWII US Marines (Eureka).

Added 14 guys to my WWII Japanese (Eureka).

Added four Reconnaissance and Surveillance (Peter Pig) guys, and eight Direct Action shooters (Khurasan) to my Modern Arctic force.

Added a dozen guys to my Modern Desert Marines (Peter Pig).

And my Modern Temperate Marines (Peter Pig).

This is a new force: 21 Somalis from Flashpoint Minis.

Added a dozen guys to my Modern Temperate French force (QRF, w/a couple Peter Pig mixed in).

And did up a whole new platoon, Modern Desert French (QRF w/a couple Peter Pig mixed in).

Added a dozen guys to my Modern Australian force (Eureka).

Added a dozen guys to my Modern Russian force (Eureka), and added a new flavor: eight Spetznaz troops (also Eureka).

Added about 24 guys to my Modern Middle East force (Peter Pig).

Added a new Special Operations unit, ten guys from Khurasan with two from Battlefront.

And then, for something totally different, I went 3mm.  I have Ben Lacy's "Operation Jupiter" scenario book, a fantastic collection of about 30 tabletop scenarios pitting Brits vs Germans near Caen in 1944.  My son and I have been playing these, having completed eight fights to date in 10mm and 15mm.  For some reason I got a wild hair and decided I wanted to give it a go in 3mm.  I absolutely love these things, so quick to get ready; it took me maybe four hours to clean, prime, paint, wash, and base these guys.

I went through the rest of the scenarios and determined all the gear I needed to play, and that's what you're looking at:
A Command Element for each side.
Six rifle squads for the Brits, four for the Germans.
An MG for each side, two mortars for the Brits, one for the Germans, two PIATs for the Brits, and one Panzerschreck for the Germans.
A 17-pdr and 6-pdr ATG for the Brits, a PaK-43 and a PaK-40 for the Germans.
A Typhoon fighter-bomber for the Brits (only one scenario, but I wanted it).
Five Universal Carriers for the Brits and three Sdkfz 251 halftracks for the Germans.
The Brits have four Churchills, four Sherman Vs, one Firefly, and four Achilles (M10 w/17-pdr).
The Germans have four Tigers, a Panther, three Pz IVHs, 2 Stug IIIs, and a Sdkfz 251 (halftrack with 75mm ATG mounted).

So, that's what I got done last weekend.  As I mentioned, all new forces shown above will have a separate blog entry to showcase the force with closeups of everything.  Meanwhile, the boy and I are set to embark upon a new campaign, I think you're gonna like it!

V/R,
Jack

  1. Hey, Jack, Looks great! How big are your bases for your 3mm? I m thinking about doing a quick and dirty ultramodern game with Strykers and a near peer OPFOR. Was speculating on base sizes just this morning.

    1. Tinman,

Thanks buddy, glad you like it. The bases are just pennies, they work for everything!

    1. Hi Vicki, thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. Someday I'll get the snow troops into action; I need to do up some bad guys, then figure out terrain...
