Flashpoint Miniatures Vietnam 15mm US Tank Riders

All,

I absolutely hate going to Jimmi's webpage (Flashpoint Miniatures, from Down Under)!  Whenever I'm there I start looking around, and I don't really need anything, but I skip from page to page, pic to pic, thinking 'wow, that would be really cool on the table!'  And that's how I ended up with some Flashpoint Minis' 15mm US Tank Riders for the Vietnam War (amongst other things, but that's in a different post).

The whole group, 28 troops.  They come as individuals, I glued them to popsicle sticks.  I'm leaving them on the sticks so I can place and remove the troops from vehicles.  It looks like it will actually work.  There is a good mix of M-16s, M-60s, and M-79s, though no M-14s.  I gave them a quick olive drab paintjob and wash, and I'm pretty happy with them.

Side view.  I put the guys at far right back to back; they can sit in the middle of an amtrac or on the back deck of a tank.  You also get a look at the popsicle sticks I mounted them on.

From the rear.

And the other side.

At an angle, and a little blurry to boot...

A closeup of one foursome, with two rifles, an MG, and an M-79.  Guy second from left is wearing a boonie cover rather than a helmet.

A look at four sets perched atop an LVTP-5 Amtrac.

Six sets spread across two Amtracs.

Another look.

Other side.

A regular set on the back deck of a tank.

Again.

The back to back guys.  With these I've got enough troops to put 12 on each Amtrac and four on the tank.  All the vehicles are from Peter Pig.

From the left.

And the front.

Pretty cool, eh?  I really like them.  I suppose I need to buy some M-113s, and these guys can serve as Doggies, or even ARVN.  We are coming up on a long weekend, and I've got all kinds of plans for games, so stand by.

V/R,
Jack

  1. Hey Jack!

Great Painting and nice figures and vehicles! Looks like you´re building up quite a force!

On another thing - I tried to contact you via email a few days ago. As you´ve been rather active over here, it seems to me like it went straight into the junk folder :(
Maybe you can take a look or write me directly to info [at] enfilade-figures. com

    Thanks and all the best,
    BG

    1. Andy,

Thanks buddy! Yeah, these are great, and I just slapped the paint on them, real easy. I highly recommend them, but beware Jimmi's website, there is all kinds of cool stuff there. You'll see in my next post; I ended up walls, fish ponds, trees, Buddhist shrines, all kinds of stuff.

    2. I see what you mean. Some lovely figures and scenic items, but I took a look at shipping charges from Aus to the U.K. and nearly fell off my chair. Bulk ordering doesn't help as then I'd have VAT, duty and a handling charge to pay on top of the shipping, so looks like a non-starter unless they get a U.K. seller. Shame though, as they are a good basic price and really attractive figures.

      Cheers, Andy

  3. All,

I'm not sure who all will see this, I may need to put it in a more prominent place. Robert (above) sent me an e-mail, but I didn't receive it. Or so I thought...

I started digging around and discovered I have a Gmail address that was created when I started my blog.

Please DO NOT send mail to my Gmail address, I do not check it. I feel terrible as there are about a dozen messages from Wargamers going back to August 2013 that I never responded to, never realized existed.

If you need to email me, please use "big jack mac -at- hot mail -dot- com" I check this every day.

    V/R,
    Jack

  4. Fantastic work again Jack ! .. I do a similar thing on plastic sheet with a magnetic base for helo 'riders. ... but can reuse as vehicle (eg M113) 'riders. ...trying to do the same for 'boat crew / passengers (eg SEALs) at the moment.
I really love the colour on your vehicles , it looks more "Marine" than mine.
...Looking forward to the battles ! ...Get some !

    1. Jimmi,

Thanks man, and I'm glad you like them! I think they're fantastic, very glad I picked them up. That sounds cool regarding SEAL passengers, I can't wait to see what you come up with.

For the vehicles, I just used a Testors OD spray paint, then gave it a wash. Get some? I did; three skirmish games today using your Vietnam-era Marines. I'm playing it as a fictional fight/country in Africa, but the basis is early (1965, all M-14s) Vietnam. I'm working on the batreps, but it'll probably be a couple days.

      Jack

    1. I used a can of Testor's OD green spray paint, same as I used on the M-48 and the LVTP-5s.
