28mm WWII Winter Soviets from Warlord

 All,

You've seen my summer Soviets, now check out their winter brethren.  Like the summer guys, these were bought in two different lots off Ebay.  The first lot was actually from the professional painter, Kings Colours, whom I've bought several sets from.  The other lot is actually the same one I referenced in the summer Soviets post; I basically took half the guys from this lot and finished them for summer, and the other half for winter.  Ultimately I ended up with only one anti-tank rifle team for the winter group, but I had a couple  ATRs from Plastic Soldier Company lying around, so I did them up to add to this force.

I didn't do any real painting in this force, just touching up the paintjobs on the guys in the second lot, and finishing their bases.

The whole mess, with guys from Kings Colours at left and the second lot at right, minus the engineers at bottom center, which are 3D prints that I purchased and painted.

Four HQ-types from Kings Colours.

A pair of officers.

A medic, with casualty.

Again.

And a comms guy.

Five automatic riflemen with SVT-40s.

Closeup.

The other three, two with panzerfausts.

Fourteen guys with submachine guns.

First pair.

Next.  A lot of guys have PPsh-41s, of course, but I'm not sure what the one on the right is, it looks slightly different, like one of the Finnish submachine guns.

Another pair.

Next pair, one with Molotov Cocktail.  As mentioned previously, I really like how this guy dry-brushes them white to get a really frosty look, but I'm scared to do that, afraid I'll over-do it and completely ruin the paintjobs.

And the last pair.

Four light machine guns.

A pair with DP-28s, pretty standard.

But then there's this cat, who's picked up an MG-34 and fancies himself a little Johann Rambo.

Twenty-two riflemen with Mosin-Nagant bolt-action rifles.

A couple guys advancing, one with grenade.

A couple popping a squat.

Three in a sort of firing pose; a nice touch is that they're hands are bare, with their gloves hanging down off their coats.

A pair of two very cold looking comrades.

Two kneeling in the snow.

Two advancing.

Another pair.

Even a couple with those short bolt action rifles/carbines I mentioned in the last post.

A maxim machine gun team.  I plan on getting another of these.

Reverse.

An 82mm mortar team, can probably live with just one, but would buy another if it popped up for the right price.

Again.

PTRD (or PTRS, not sure how to differentiate) anti-tank rifle.

Now we get to the guys from the second lot, four men with submachine guns.  At bottom left you can see another of that odd looking duck I referenced above.

I swear that's Uncle Joe on the right.

The other two.

Three guys with SVT-40s.

Closeup.

A pair of DP-28s.

Twenty-two more riflemen.

Good mix of overcoats and the quilted suits.

Ahh, an SVT-40 snuck in here (left).

Couple more charging.

Urrrrrrah!

Dashing ahead with scoped rifle and taking a knee, chilling.

Two more.  The guys with greatcoats in this set have some huge boots on.  Just looked at the pics, the guys from the Kings Colours lot do too, I just didn't notice for some reason.

Two men working their way up.

One of the ATRs from PSC that I painted up.

And the other, looking awfully unbothered by the sub-zero temperatures...

A six-man team of engineers.

A flamethrower and DP-28.

And a dude throwing a frag while his buddy pops a panzerfaust.

So, pretty cool, but  more work needs to be done.  I'd love to have another machine gun, and I absolutely need some guns to go with this force, be they 45mm or 76mm (or both, like the summer force).  I also want to get some M1927 short 76mm guns for summer and winter; once I've got all that I think I'll be set.

V/R,
Jack
