All,
I wanted to show you my US Army vehicles for fighting the Axis powers in the Mediterranean Theater of Operations and the European Theater of Operations. Not a lot of vehicles here, but what there is should suffice to get me through the stuff I want to do and, unlike most of the other vehicle sets, this one was mostly painted by me.
I wasn't really sure how to go about painting 28mm vehicles, and I started out using Contrast paints. It worked okay for some of my British vehicles and the one German tank I did, but I wasn't elated with the results, so I took to Youtube to see if there was a simple method that I might be able to follow, and lo and behold, I found something I'm happy with. It's actually designed for painting 15mm tanks in a hurry but, from my perspective at least, it worked fine for 28mm, and it was quick and easy, and hell, even kinda fun (while I like painting figures, I really do not enjoy painting vehicles).
So I spray painted everything black, then set to dry brushing. Started with Oak Brown, then Dark Green, then Brown-Green (dammit, it's a Vallejo Color from the US box but I can't think of the name, did up the tracks, tools, and machine guns (some wood color, black, then highlighted with silver, then hit with a dark wash), then Iraqi Sand. I'm very happy with the results.
The whole mess: a Jeep with M2 .50-cal HMG mounted, an M8 armored car, four M3 halftracks, an M3 Stuart, an M10 Wolverine, three M4 Shermans (one with 76mm gun), and an M3 Lee or Grant. The fourth halftrack, which was painted by a guy on Ebay. I didn't need this model, but it came with the M3 Lee/Grant, and I needed that.
The M3 Lee/Grant; oh hell, let me look it up. This is definitively an M3 Lee, and I now know that the British tanks I have are M3 Grants (I'm going off the turret shapes).
Those look excellent Jack - nicely done. A real 'lived in' ETO feel!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Darren, I appreciate it!

Splendid collection of vehicles and tanks. I keep meaning to get some halftracks but it always seems a bit of a luxury when really they only get used for transporting ? I be also pondered a third Sherman but it would have to be a very large game to have three on the table at once 🤔
ReplyDeleteMatt, you’re absolutely right, they don’t spend much time in them, do they? ;) I like them for reserves, to get them quickly on the table and where you need them to go.
DeleteBut three Sherman’s are a necessity, with the way I get them brewed up! ;)
