28mm Warlord WWII Late War Fallschirmjaeger

 All,

As promised, here are my mid to late war German paratroopers for the Eastern Front and Northwest Europe.  These guys are all from Warlord Games, a rifle platoon made up of plastic multi-pose figures rounded out with some crew serves and specialists from their metal range.  Nothing really to add in my commentary since I just covered the subject; it's the same guys, just painted differently! ;)

Once again I've used Contrast paints to knock these guys out.  I used the same camo scheme on the smocks and helmet covers (Militarum Green and Gore Grunta Fur over Skeleton Horde), but this time you'll see some grays and greens (Space Wolves Gray over dark gray prime for uncovered helmets and trousers, Creed Camo for netted helmets), and some painted metal is Dark Angel Green, with everyhing else basically the same (well, Aggros Dunes for the panzerschreck and panzerfausts).  This time I used Snakebite Leather on a lot of the pouches and gear, rather than Wyldwood, as I did on the FJ for the Med.

The whole mess, showing the airborne rifle platoon as well as an ATG crew, MG team, 80mm mortar team, panzerschreck team, flamethrower team, and sniper team.

Right out the gate we've got a leader-type with 'piss-cutter' hat, pointing into the distance.

Reverse.

A bevy of paras dashing forward with their MP-40s blazing.

A closeup.

Reverse.

A group of machine gunners moving up, MG-42 over their shoulder, ammo can in the other hand, belted ammo around their neck.

A closeup.  Damn, I really need to knock some of that excess static grass off him...

Back side.

Side.

A trio of leader-types with MP-40s, one with barracks cover, one with soft cover, and one with netted helmet.

The backside of two of them.

Three more leader-types, squatting down with their MP-40s.

A closer look.

A group of riflemen moving up, with panzerfausts slung over their shoulder.

Closeup of a dude with a camo helmet cover.

And the reverse side, this time a guy with no helmet cover but some netting (though the larger kind).

Two troopers moving up with FG-42s.

Two riflemen racking fresh rounds into the chambers of their K98s.

A pair of kneeling riflemen.

A riflemen kneeling with FG-42 and a trooper moving up with hand grenade in his right hand and a satchel charge in his left.

Reverse.

Three riflemen, taking a breather.

Another rifleman kneeling, peering through the hedgerow, and another guy with a frag and satchel charge.

The MG-42 team on tripod.  Overall, a pretty cool model.

But...  and I didn't take a good photo of it to show you, but that man behind the gun is one of the worst sculpts in all of human history!  What you can't see is that he's got short little legs, and they're actually bent straight in front of him, so that his boots are touching the tripod, and they're really small, so that it kind of looks like he doesn't even have legs...  The good news is, you can't really see it, your eye is attracted to the gun and the overall scene, so it does fine so long as you don't stare at him too long...

EDIT: By request, additional pics of the gunner:

The leather brown just below his cuff/hand is his right boot.

The leather brown just below the red brown stick of the machine gun is his left boot.  His left hand should theoretically be in his knee (roughly in accordance with normal human proportions), but is touching the top of his boot…

Looking down where you can see his boots up against the gun, right hand extending well past (he’s VERY limber).

The mortar team, very well done.

Reverse.

The panzerschreck team (with more damn static grass on the gunner's helmet!).  Note the Teller Mine on the loader.

Reverse.  I also like how the loader is sculpted carrying both their rifles, pretty cool.

The flamethrower team.

Reverse.

The sniper team.  The barrel was broken off the prone/lounging dude's rifle and I couldn't find it in the package...

Reverse.

The anti-tank gun crew, which I partnered up with the PaK-36 from Rubicon (because it was handy and I was in a hurry).

Another look.

So, whaddaya think?  I'm very happy with how they turned out.  I'd like to have some more troops for the rifle platoon (this one and the Med force), so I've been thinking about buying another box of the plastic FJ, but... I'm not going to do that because I promised I would stop painting and start playing games ;)

Getting closer, but still more forces to photo and post and still more troops to finish painting.

V/R,
Jack

    1. I’ll see if I can get a good one. If I recall correctly, it’s largely covered by the static grass, but I’ll take another look.

  3. Hello Jack,

These last 3 posts of the FJs are amazing. You are churning out excellent painted figures at great speed. Looking good and glad you have a plan to stop eventually and get into a game.

    1. Hey buddy, thanks for, I’m glad you like them. There are sooooo many more to post, it’s kind of driving me crazy. And yes, I’ve got a plan; finish the German platoon I’m working on then the Soviets and take a break.

      Jack
